how to sooth night coughs
I read from both Hijack Queen’s and Jessie’s blog entries on how to sooth the midnight coughing using Vicks Vaporub, and decided to try this special remedy on Nikita who has been coughing for the past 2 weeks.
I used Baby Vicks rub on Nikita since I misplaced the Vaporub and because Nikita doesn’t like to wear socks to bed, I made her covered herself under the duvet blanket. Result – It still works like MAGIC! For 3 days in a row now, she was able to sleep through the night without waking up!
Ok… here’s the abstract for those who are keen to know how it works.
To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.
The head of the Canada Research Council described these findings on the part of their scientists when they were investigating the effectiveness and usage of prescription cough medicines in children as compared to alternative therapies like acupressure.

Funny that you should post about this. My sister just told me how it worked for her daughter, as well as for a friend’s child. I’m thinking of trying it because Sara’s been coughing at night…

felicia, sssf, hsin, yes… u should try this. Our pediatrician always disapprove the use of cough suppressant syrup on young children and so this really comes in handy to help the coughing child.

Yes! Rubbing vick on the bottom of foot then put on sock before sleep is very effective for easing coughing at night! I tried on my girls and they really had uninterrupted sleep
Effective on adults too, I had proven 
But still the phlegm is the mastermine… It’s quite difficult to remove the phlegm in children…
Yes.. i read about it too..! but i doubt i can put vaporub on chloe’s feet.. if the need arises.. coz’ she is very particular

I tried on my daughther and it didn’t work. She still cough in at night.
Sorry to hear that,Been. It is still doing wonders for my little one who is currently down with flu and cough though. Maybe you can try putting more vaporub on her feet and chest too.It won’t cure the cough,but will at least help her to feel better I think. Good Luck!
Thanks. I tried the vicks remedy. I’m not sure if I just got lucky but there hasn’t been any coughing for over ten minutes. I’m going to attempt going back to bed!

Thanks, It seems to be a good idea. i will definitely try this on my son. My son is suffering by severe coughing at night from last 1 month. Tried all antibiotics and cough suppressant, but it didnt work.

My son has a terrible cough I never give him anything for it besides his albuterol via nebulizer but tonight that is not helping . He actually woke up coughing so badly tonight that he vomited my poor baby!!! Anyway I gave him Dehistine cough syrup but he is still coughing I’m going to try the vicks foot rub and I pray to God it works. If it does thanks to everyone on here.
Well here it is 2:04 am and we have been cough free for almost 10 minutes. I can’t believe it but I think this vicks thing really works. Thank you Lord Now maybe I can sleep for an hour.
was coughing like crazy.. severely just a few minutes ago.. until i decided to go online and check for home remedies and got lucky to read this vicks vaporub magic… it’s true.. IT WORKS!!! in less than 5 minutes my coughing and throat itchiness completely stopped.. im going back to bed right now..
